Open Try Outs for U10 & U11 Girls

Our Team Philosophy is that the practice environment is the best place to look at potential players to see if they are ready and interested in moving to competitive soccer. The Tidal Wave 97 (U10 Girls) and Tidal Wave 96 (U11 Girls) will practice Mondays and Wednesdays, 4 – 5:30 pm at the Hayes Park soccer fields. We will also be holding intra-squad scrimmages for the players on Saturdays in March (10 – 11:30 am at Hayes Park as well). Our practices begin Monday, 3 March.

Please note that the birthdates for your children should fall into one of these two categories, if they do not, we can direct you to other teams with in the Monterey County Futbol Club that would fit your child's age range.
Birthdate ranges:
U10: 8/1/97 – 7/31/98
U11: 8/1/96 – 7/31/97

Spring Registration 08 & Housekeeping

Hi Tidal Wave Families & Potential Tidal Wave Families – Though we have been some what “silent” during the Indoor season, Owens, Roy and I, as well as the new managers and Gary have been busily working behind the scenes getting organized for the upcoming Season(s).

Yes, it’s a LONG note, so save for future reference and I will try to be as thorough as I can in as few words as possible!

U10 Indoor Schedule Update
This weekend’s 9:05 AM game moved to Sunday 2/24 at 5:20pm confirmed

Spring Registration is Due Soon!
We will be gathering up Spring Registration forms at Indoor Games. If one of the managers has not tracked you down, please be sure to ask them for a registration form to sign. Also we will need new head shot pictures of your daughters; managers please bring digital camera to indoor game in order to have up to date photos of the girls for their new game cards.

Spring Practice Schedule
Practice will begin Monday March 3rd and continue on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 4-5:30
As well as Saturday’s in March from 10 – 11:30 (until Spring Season Begins first week of April) at Hayes Park Field (where we practiced last Spring)
Roy emphasized, Saturday’s will be focused on fun and game day prep! For new folks or to refresh everyone’s memories: Saturday’s we’ll have mini-tournaments and we keep them as much play- like and as little practice-like as possible. We will have them warm up as they would for a game, so they know what is expected for a pre-game warm up, i.e. drills, stretches etc. Eventually we want game captains to lead most of the warm up both during practice and then the games as well. The idea is to put more of the responsibility of what happens on the field on the girls.

Parents Meeting
Mandatory Parent's meeting after practice on Wednesday, 5 Mar. 5:30 – 6:00 PM. We will go over our expectations of parents as well as answer questions you may have. Bring ideas for raising money and how you would like to participate to help our team.

The Naming of the Team: From here on out, including and most importantly on registration forms
U10's will be "MCFC Tidal Wave 97G"
U11's will be "MCFC Tidal Wave 96G."

Fundraising Ideas, Suggestions encouraged and welcomed
Sell Team sweatshirts and ball caps to parents and players
Sell flower bulbs. We keep 50%.
Car washes with the girls doing the washing. Pre-sell tickets so that we get the money even if they don’t come. If done at a busy location for most of the day can often raise $500-$1000.

Film Review by Roy
We will take one of the practices and sit down with each team individually to go over the film of a past team of Roy’s (so they are not embarrassed by comments) for about 30 minutes to look at game tape. Roy really wants them to work this season on thinking more about decision making

Guest Trainers/Goalie Training
One Friday in March probably Mar 7 or 14 probably from 4-6, we will be having a guest Goalie Trainer from Santa Cruz, Annemarie Hennes, who has extensive experience, to work with our goalies. If your daughter has played goalie or is interested in receiving additional training in the position, please let me know if the 7th and 14th would work for you. Through out the season we will plan on bringing in other guest trainers as our budgets allow. We will also be bring in a woman running coach, who would be willing to work with the girls; in both these circumstances we have paired up with our Sister MCFC teams, the Gale Force (U13G) and Hurricanes (U12G) to help keep the cost reasonable. We will pay our portion out of our MCFC Tidal Wave account. Our thoughts on guest trainers is that it is good for the players to periodically see different coaching styles. We can also achieve this by having the girls participate in camps and "play days" like those put on by Catalyst/MCFC

Catalyst Monterey County Futbol Club Soccer Play Days
February 16 @ York School, Monterey
February 24 @ York School, Monterey
U11 (ages 9-10) from 12 - 2
U13 (ages 11-12) from 3 - 5 pm
MCFC will be using the Catalyst Play Days as tryouts for their club teams. Roy, Owens, Gary, Mike, and I will all be out on the fields scouting for girls that are interested on kicking their game up to another level. Both the U10 & U11 teams will need a roster of 16 for the Spring and Fall seasons, as they will both be playing 11v11 from here on out. Each team currently has 13 players, so we need to add another 3 gals with great attitudes and strong work ethic to complement our existing teams. If you would like to bring your daughter our for one of the play days, they are a fun way to spend the day. The more eyes the better too!
The age ranges for your reference are:
U-10 Team must be born between:
8/1/97 – 7/31/98
U11 Team must be born between:
8/1/96 – 7/31/97

I will post all of this information to the blog, and please feel free to contact any of us listed below with questions you may have. See you on the soccer fields!

A Note About Indoor from Roy

Tidal Wave –
I strongly encourage any of the girls who plan on continuing with the Tidal Wave to play indoor this winter (and hope even the girls who may or may not stay on play also),it keeps up our touch on the ball, and helps us grow as a team.

If you have never seen Soccer Central in Watsonville, it is a real indoor field - and the indoor game is fast, offensive minded, there are walls to play against like a hockey rink - it is fun to play if you like playing soccer. Moreover, we do not practice during that period, we just show up and play and go home. I know with my Santa Cruz club teams indoor soccer was one of the highlights of the year.

If there is interest, perhaps we can arrange to get a court in the next few weeks and play up there one time for those who have never seen Soccer Central or have never seen indoor soccer.

Close of Fall Season & What comes Next?

Hi All - in case you didn't play with us last season, here are the next steps with competitive soccer.

We will finish out our regular Fall Season November 17. Both Tidal Wave teams will practice until the weekend of D2 Jamboree for the U10 team which is Decemeber 1 & 2. We will then likely have an end of the year celebration, Roy suggested at the Indoor Soccer Center, which would be great for us to be able to chat and the kids to load up on pizza and shoot around with the ball.

Then we will take a break until the beginning of Indoor which is January 12. This means we would have to have all paperwork and info done before we go on break. Then after indoor, we will likely have another 2 week break, and then gear up for Spring Soccer 08. We will probably practice at Hayes Park Field again for the Spring. Hope this helps! Now you are all up to speed.

D2 Jamboree for U10 team December 1 & 2 - Mark Your Calendars!

District CupThe U10 team is registered for District Cup. The games will be played on December 1 and 2 at different locations in the South Bay for more information you can visit http://d2cup.redwoodsoccer.org/ More information to come soon, but please mark these dates in your calendar.

Winter Indoor Survey, please respond

Winter IndoorSaturday games only, no practice, season runs for 6 weeks, from January 12 – March 2

I wanted to get an idea if you are interested in Winter Indoor for your daughter. I have emailed the file that explains the registration dates and requirements. Our team receives a discount, and time to practice on the court if we register early. (see attached) We will each owe Soccer Central $20.00 per year when we check in on for the first game as well as the registration fees which I will figure out once we know how many girls are playing. If anyone could help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Fall Details Final Registration Info

Hi Tidal Wave Families- Hope you are enjoying the last days of summer. We have some last minute organizational details for the Fall Season.
I will send you individual emails, if there is any additional information that I need from you, i.e. birth certificate etc. If you do not hear from me individually, you are set, other than the payment, so thank you!

Practices will continue to be on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 - 5:30, however field locations will be changing in the next week. The Monterey Rec teams will begin using Hayes Park, and we are working out the details and costs associated with moving our practices to York Field and or Santa Catalina. Stay tuned.*

If you did not pay the initial $25 to the Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League; please plan on $200 check payable to the MCFC Tidal Wave no later than next week. If you did pay the $25 to OVYSL then please make a check the MCFC Tidal Wave for $175 by next week. If you have extenuating circumstances, please do not hesitate to contact me personally and we can work out some details, or payment options.

And if you know of any additional girls that are interested in the U11 team, we do still have 3 spaces that could be filled. (Total of 11 registered). The U10 team also has 11 registered however; they play 8v8 in the Fall so that leaves 3 subs, which will be fine.

Thanks and all for now-
Celeste

Fall 07/08 Registration Begins

Dear Tidal Wave Parents –
As the registration process progresses, on Monday you will need to fill out the USYSA Membership Form that I give to you in the event of an emergency medical treatment given to your daughter. I have already filled out the majority of the forms for returning players to ensure proper procedures.

For those of you not attending camp, I will mail you the forms tomorrow, please complete and include the additional requirements (see below) and mail them back to me with your check. My address is listed below.

For new players: Players name must match the player’s name as it appears on her birth certificate. No nick names.

For all: Parent signature is required in two areas in blue ink on the USYSA membership form and will be returned as incomplete if missing.

In addition to the properly completed form, I will need:

Check or Money order made out to OVYSL for $25
One small 1 ½ X 1” colored photo of your player. A too small picture or too large picture is unacceptable. No hat or sunglasses. Photos must be front view. No Polaroid’s and no photos cut from previous passes or baseball cards will be accepted. Computer generate photos are acceptable if they are high quality. PLEASE WRITE PLAYERS NAME ON BACK OF PHOTO.
Two copies of a copy of the players government issued certified birth certificate (not the original), green card, refugee card or passport. Hospital, baptismal or religious certificates are NOT acceptable. (This is required for age verification per USYSA rules and after this year will not be required as the new computer program will already have this information in the program.)

Additional funds will be collected to cover the team registration fee as well as referee and field dues, however, we will determine that amount in the next week.

I think that covers it, if you have additional questions, please let me know.

Thanks for your cooperation with this.

Cheers-
Celeste
